Citrusdal Golf Club sits in the rural beauty of the Olifants River valley in the Western Cape, surrounded by citrus orchards, level plains and sweeping views of the Cederberg Mountains. It is a 9-hole parkland course, relatively flat, which makes it accessible for most golfers while still offering interesting challenges. The tee layout and fairways follow gentle contours and the course is noted for its clean greens and well kept playing surfaces. One of its charms is that, although it is modest and unpretentious, every round allows golfers to soak in the natural scenery: views of the river, wide open skies, and ridges of mountains in the distance.
The club’s history stretches back to 1960 when a group of fifteen locals attempted a four-hole course on land known as the “Koeikamp.” That early effort eventually lapsed due to maintenance difficulties. In 1975 a second wave of enthusiasm saw the redevelopment of the site into a full nine holes. In the early 1980s the club secured ownership of the land, firmly establishing its presence. Over the years Citrusdal has hosted several tournaments, including the Citrusdal Open and Invitational, making the club not just a peaceful retreat but also a hub of local competitive golf activity.
The clubhouse is welcoming and simple yet full of character. It provides a comfortable space to relax after a round, with a bar, social areas and space for members and visitors to gather. There is a braai area for informal meals and socialising. The club places emphasis on friendliness and a relaxed country atmosphere. Equipment hire, trolleys and golf carts are available, a putting green and practice areas allow players to warm up, and the layout of the course ensures a steady pace of play.
